Saturday was one of the most satisfying days we've had in a while. I started the day by meeting a transporter from Alabama (thanks Natalie!) who brought us . I then drove to Howell Mill Road to meet Toby's new foster family, Kathy, Jon and Lillian.
This family had adopted from us 3 years ago, saw Toby on the website and just knew they could give him a safe place to be while he waited for his forever home. It was so great to see this family! Lillian had run a lemonade stand with Atlanta Beagle Rescue being the beneficiary and she presented a donation check to us when we met up. Toby settled right into their home, and follows Lillian around for .
After leaving Toby in very good hands it was time to gather up Penny and take her to her new home. We haven't had Penny on our website because she was adopted before we took her. A woman had seen her on the DeKalb Animal Services website and called to say she wanted to come down and meet Penny and most likely adopt her. She got the news that Atlanta Beagle Rescue had been there an hour before and took Penny out, so Susan contact us and we started the process. Penny tested positive for heartworm so she stayed with us a little longer while she was treated. Susan waited patiently for Penny to finish her treatment, and on Saturday Penny had a new home!
Susan does wonderful pet portraits; she was working on a beagle one when I arrived. If you would like to have a pet portrait done (she can do it from a photograph) please

After making Penny's happy match, I was back home to get ready for their trip to Connecticut. Through Barking Hound Village Foundation Rescue we were able to secure a spot for them with a rescue in CT which already had an interested party. Puppy Pipeline Rescue helps make it possible for hundreds and hundreds of dogs from Georgia to find new homes in areas that do not have such a horrible overpopulation problem.
At 6pm I kissed Maurice and Mabel and sent them on their way to a new, wonderful life. I hope to see photos of them frolicking in the snow. Riding along with Maurice and Mabel were three puppies and a young female dog that had been at the shelter for a while.
Days like Saturday refuel us and give us a renewed sense of purpose. While so many animals die needlessly at shelters, our little victories are beacons of hope in the darkness.
