Beagles are generally a pretty healthy breed. They are prone to obesity as they age because they love, love, love food. Beagles do tend to have the most problems with their ears. Those long soft ears act as great barriers to dirt and other foreign objects as they sniff their way through the brush, but they are also great barriers to letting moisture out and fresh air in. Beagles are prone to ear yeast infections that in some dogs can become chronic. You will see beagles with fatty "tumors" called lypomas, and as some beagles age they may get cysts. We call them "old dog lumps and bumps" and they are usually benign but should always be checked by a vet.
Rarer conditions can include thyroid disease, epilepsy and progressive retinal atrophy.
