One really tough thing about being a blind dog - you can't see who wants to play with you. Briggs was a little confused as our beagle Della was doing her usual invitation to play this morning. Unfortunately Della doesn't give normal dog cues, which perhaps even a blind dog might pick up on. Instead she flings herself around and spins in circles. Even our big dogs who play together don't understand what she's doing.
So Briggs walked away, and then bumped into our dog Rusty who doesn't like to be bumped into. A little snippy snap ensued and was over in a second, but Briggs' adrenaline was high and he was ready to defend himself from the next thing that freaked him out.
Which was Della, trying to play with him again. Next thing we know Briggs' is on top of Della and the fur, while not quite flying, was getting ready for take-off.
How do you break up two fighting beagles when one is blind? Throw a coat over the one on top and pull.
No dog was at fault so we just checked for war wounds (there were none) and calmed everyone down and the rest of the morning was quiet.
We guess Mr. Briggs can hold his own!
