Briggs was found as a stray, wandering the streets in Clayton County. We were having a busy weekend of dogs getting adopted and new ones coming in when we got an email forward to help a "poor old blind beagle". Well, we knew we had to get him because no one else would, and we had a place to send him to as well - the fabulous Rolling Dog Ranch!
Briggs is not a senior dog. He is probably in the 5-7 range, which puts him squarely in middle age for a beagle. He is completely blind - most likely from glaucoma. He gets around pretty confidently, but not smoothly. He also has some neurological impairment that makes him wobble and walk stiff-legged. Briggs is a little on the thin side, but not overly so. His coat (after a couple of shampoos) is in good shape. His nails were very, very overgrown - so much so that his toes had started to twist to compensate. His teeth are plaquey, but not in bad shape and his ears are clean.
Briggs is also housebroken and great with the other dogs and so sweet and loves belly rubs.
What is his story???! We really do wish they could send us at least telepathic images of what their lives were like "before", because this sure is a mystery.
He'll get to our vet ASAP, and we're going to try and get him to Rolling Dog as soon as we can after that. They have the resources to run whatever tests are necessary to help him out.
