I'm so excited! E-mail
Tuesday, 19 February 2008

While at work today I got an instant message from my husband saying that he had been playing with Manny at home and Manny had been running around like a nutty beagle and having a great time.

It is so good to see a dog perk up and transition so well in foster care. It's especially gratifying in a senior dog. We know he'll make someone an excellent companion.

Manny went to the vet yesterday. He is heartworm negative! Yay! He did come up with whipworms in his fecal test. Boo on whipworms! A few doses of worming medicine and he'll be totally clean though.

Because of his age we did take a large blood sample and that has gone off to the lab to give it a full work up. Our vet was concerned about some lumps and bumps on his abdomen, so we also took some x-rays. There may be some minor liver disease, which would not be suprising in a dog his age and shape. He has definitely been fed a lot of people food and he has a lot of internal as well as external fat. Nothing that regular exercise and a better diet won't improve greatly.

Manny did not have a microchip, so we don't hold out much hope in connecting him with an owner that may be looking for him.

Manny is such a wonderful dog - so happy to see us when we get home, and so great with our other dogs. He's loving and happy and deserves a home of his own as much as any puppy.
