We live in an area that was hit by the "downtown tornado" on Saturday and were, in fact, in our car in a parking lot when it hit East Atlanta. Not an experience we would care to repeat.
We had no power until about midnight Saturday and with more severe storms coming through all day we decided to reschedule our adoption event at Razzle Dazzle Doggies. There was some pretty severe hail in the afternoon so we're glad we were safely inside with our battery powered TV on. The dogs were not happy about the whole 24 hours, but we all survived and we were very lucky not to have any damage to our home.
Many people were not so lucky. We checked on friends and surveyed the neighborhood damage. Everyone was physically okay but the devastation was pretty overwhelming. Nothing on the scale of our neighborhood in New Orleans, of course, but the sheer power of the wind was mind-boggling. Massive trees completely uprooted and tossed about like matchsticks, the roof of someone's carport thrust up into the branches of a huge tree above their house.
It's good to have the power back on and the worst loss for us was a freezer full of food and some milk. So many people in our neighborhood and across the state were not so lucky. |
